Dr. Güneş Ünüvar

Senior Researcher, Luxembourg Centre for European Law, University of Luxembourg

Dr Güneş Ünüvar is Senior Lecturer in Law (from June 2026) at the University of Exeter Law School. His research explores the evolving legal and regulatory frameworks governing international economic relations and outer space activities. He works on questions of responsibility, sustainability, commercialisation, and institutional design, examining how these themes shape both investment governance and the development of space law and policy, including the emerging understanding of space as an environment. His scholarship combines theoretical analysis with policy-oriented and interdisciplinary perspectives, engaging closely with the practical implications of legal frameworks for states, institutions, and private actors.

Before joining Exeter, Güneş was a Senior Researcher at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law, University of Luxembourg, where he worked on international, European, and Luxembourg space law as well as international investment law and debates surrounding investor-state dispute settlement reform. He previously held the position of Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law, focusing on international adjudication and the design of dispute settlement systems.

Güneş holds a PhD in International Law from the University of Copenhagen, an LLM from the Brussels School of Governance (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), and an LLB from Bilkent University. He is Managing Editor of the Journal of World Investment & Trade, an Associate Fellow at the Academy of International Affairs NRW, the Legal Advisor and Board Member of the Moon Village Association, and a member of the International Institute of Space Law.
