State Aid Uncovered, now in its ninth edition, presents analysis of the main policy and legal developments in the fi eld of State aid in 2021. Several hundred State aid measures were approved by the European Commission to combat COVID-19 on the basis of the Temporary Framework that was adopted in March 2020 and at the end of 2021 it was revised for a sixth time.
The year was also rich in case law that expanded our understanding of State aid, brought fresh insights and also a few surprises, expertly explained here by Phedon Nicolaides, Professor at the University of Maastricht and the University of Nicosia, as well as Academic Director at Lexxion Training. Prof. Nicolaides identifi es the major State aid judgments and Commission decisions of the year, as well as new rules and legislation, critically reviewing their most salient features. This book compiles articles originally published weekly on Lexxion’s State Aid Blog. The articles are edited and conveniently grouped into chapters covering the main aspects of the concept and procedures of State aid, Commission guidelines and the role of national courts. Each article presents the main points of a court ruling or Commission decision, places them in the context of similar case law or practice, assesses the underlying reasoning, and identifi es any inconsistencies or contradictions.
This volume is supplemented with a full index of CJEU and Commission cases.
