Alexander is a leading public funding lawyer with experience of advising national administrations on State aid compliance, financial instruments and grant programmes. As a Legal Director at DWF Law LLP, Alexander advises both the public sector and private sector on how to achieve their objectives within the law, including how to make the most of the State aid opportunities under GBER. As a lawyer in the UK Government Legal Department for seven years, Alexander advised on State aid compliance across 7 national grant programmes, including ERDF, where he successfully represented the UK Government in overturning State aid and procurement findings in front of the European Court of Auditors. He was also the Government’s lead lawyer in setting up 5 ERDF backed financial instruments worth over £1bn. In 2014 he was a detached national expert seconded by the UK Cabinet Office to the European Commission where he worked at DG Competition and DG Regio. Alexander has provided State aid training as a European Commission recognised expert through the TAIEX programme to Government Departments in other Member States.
