An Renckens graduated as Commercial Engineer in 2004, and obtained the diploma Master of Science in Economics, with a specialization in Industrial Organization, at the University of Leuven one year later. She holds a PhD in Applied Economics (University of Antwerp and Toulouse School of Economics, May 2008).

After her PhD she started working at RBB Economics in Brussels, advising clients on the economics of competition law. In 2010, she joined the European Commission where she started as desk officer for Belgium in the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN). Two years later, she moved to the Directorate General for Competition (DG COMP), where she first worked as a case handler in DG COMP’s Food Task Force, dealing with antitrust issues in the food supply chain in Europe. Since 2018, she works as a case handler in the area of State aid in the transport unit of DG COMP.
