David Petrlik
Judge, General Court of the European Union, Luxembourg
Born in 1978 in Plzeň (Czech Republic), Mr David Petrlík obtained a Master’s degree in law from the Západočeská univerzita v Plzni (University of West Bohemia, Czech Republic) in 2002, having also studied at the Universität Passau (University of Passau, Germany) in 1999-2000. He obtained a Master’s degree in law from the université Paris I – Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, France) in 2003. He obtained a doctorate in law from the Univerzita Karlova (Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic) in 2016.
In 2004, he began his professional career as a legal adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and, following the accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union, he joined the Court of Justice as a legal secretary to Judge Jiří Malenovský, with whom he worked until 2015.
In 2015, he joined the European GNSS Agency (currently the European Union Agency for the Space Programme) as a legal officer and then as a deputy head of section in the Legal and Procurement Department. From 2018 to 2021, he was a head of section of that department.
Since 2011, Mr Petrlík has also been involved in teaching, working as a lecturer in EU law and intellectual property law at the Univerzita Karlova. He is the author of numerous publications in those fields.
Mr Petrlík was appointed as a Judge at the General Court on 1 March 2021.
