Giovanni Pitruzzella
Former AG, Judge at the Italian Constitutional Court
Giovanni Pitruzzella is Judge at the Italian Constitutional Court. Before his appointment, he has been Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (2018 – 2023) and Chairman of the Italian Competition Authority (2011 – 2018).
Commissioner then Chairman of the Independent Authority that regulates strikes in essential public services (2006 – 2011) and legal consultant of the Ministry of Health from 2008 to 2011.
On April 2013, he was appointed by the President of the Republic as one of the ten experts asked to provide a comprehensive economic and institutional reform program and, on June of the same year, he was nominated member of a group of experts asked to provide a broad set of constitutional reforms.
Full professor of Constitutional Law, he taught in the Universities of Palermo, Cagliari, Luiss and Luxembourg.
Until he was settled as Chairman of the Italian Competition Authority, he was an administrative law lawyer.
Author of several books, scientific publications in the sector of public, constitutional, administrative and competition law, his “Diritto Costituzionale”, written with Roberto Bin, is the most common handbook in the Italian universities.
