Michael Schütte has been working as an independent attorney in Brussels since May 2009. After many years as the Brussels office managing partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in the field of antitrust, competition and trade, he has worked in the Brussels office of a US firm as a senior partner in the same field from October 2006 until April 2009. In addition to general competition work, Michael Schütte specialises in cartel cases, State aid (i. e., antisubsidy cases within the European Union), as well as antidumping, countervailing duties and WTO trade law. In these areas, he has mainly advised large European and German companies as well as State institutions, and has successfully led many complex competition and trade related litigation cases before the European Court of Justice and the General Court, some of them being principal precedents in their respective areas. Michael Schütte’s clients come from many sectors, including shipbuilding, steel, automotive, paper, transport, food/nutrition, energy and the semiconductor industry.
