EStAL 1/2024 Out Now

Issue 1/2024 of the European State Aid Law Quarterly (EStAL) is now online! In the Editorial, Caroline Buts ventures down the rabbit hole of the present State aid policy context.

In the Articles section you can find papers on: regulatory form and the differentiation of fiscal measures and non-fiscal measures in EU State aid law; Italy’s experience implementing a comprehensive State aid register; the identification of foreign subsidies under the EU’s New Foreign Subsidies Regulation; how the CJEU has defined ‘Incentive Effect’ and ‘Start of Works’ in Eesti Pagar and Est Wind Power;  and how the EU’s new economic security strategy amounts to a ‘yes, but’ approach in EU trade relations.

Looking at the new FSR from a different angle, an opinion piece predicts the impact of the Regulation on professional football.

The Country Reports section features national updates from: EEA and EFTA StatesFinlandPolandSpain and the United Kingdom.

The Case Notes section covers Case C-284/21 P Commission v Braesch and Others and Joined Cases C-73/22 P and C-77/22 Grupa Azoty S.A. and Others v Commission

Additionally, you can find a Book Review of The Future of EU State Aid Law, Consolidation and Expansion (EU Law Live Press, 2023) and a report from the EStAL Lecture on 1 February 2024 in Brussels reflecting on the main State aid events of the past few years.
