Alexandre Schouteden
Independent Consultant; Previously Lead Internal Auditor at NATO and Internal Control Officer at the European Commission
Alexandre Schouteden works as independent consultant and lecturer. He delivers trainings on a wide range of topics to participants from the European Commission, the European Court of Auditors and agencies of the European Union.
With nearly two decades of experience in audit and internal control, he has developed extensive expertise in the governance, accountability, and oversight frameworks of major public institutions, notably the European Commission and NATO. He began his career at Ernst & Young (2008–2014), conducting audits of EU-funded projects in the fields of research and external cooperation. He then joined the European Commission, where he held successive roles as external auditor, internal auditor, and internal control officer between 2014 and 2023, working on programmes related to research and innovation, external cooperation, and the Technical Support Instrument. From 2023 to 2025, he served as Lead Internal Auditor at NATO, overseeing audit engagements covering the Alliance’s activities in diplomacy, deterrence, and defence.
Alexandre has a master’s degree in business administration. He is also certified internal auditor, certified fraud examiner and certified government auditing professional.
