Associate Professor Dr. Goh Choo Ta is the Deputy Director at Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI), Universiti
Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He has more than 16 years of experiences in the field of chemical governance and chemical safety. Dr. Goh has been appointed by the Ministry of Environment
and Water (KASA) as Technical Advisor for the Minamata Convention on Mercury; and he has also been appointed by Ministry of Health (MOH) as Environmental Health
Expert in the field of chemical governance and chemical safety. Besides, Dr Goh has been appointed by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) as Member
(Professional) in the Technical Committee of CLASS Regulations 2013; and appointed by National Authority for Chemical Weapon Convention as member of the National Scientific Advisory Board. Also, Dr. Goh was invited by Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to serve as National Expert at the Workshop on ASEAN-Japan Chemical Safety Database (AJCSD). Dr. Goh is also the Editorial Board member for the journal International Chemical Regulatory and Law Review and as a member in the National Steering Committee on Malaysia Global Environment Facility – Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP) by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In 2017, Dr. Goh was appointed by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment  (NRE) as lead consultant for the project entitled ‘A Study to Strengthen Governance of Hazardous Chemicals in Malaysia’. Besides, Dr. Goh also has vast experience for the
implementation of GHS (Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals). In this regard, Dr Goh was appointed by MITI in 2016 to develop a system known as Classification Tool for Chemical Mixture (CATCH) that assist industry to comply with CLASS Regulations 2013, where CLASS Regulations 2013 was established based on GHS. Dr. Goh also collaborates with various international organisations, such as United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to carry out projects related to chemicals management. Dr. Goh has been invited by various national and international agencies to deliver papers related to chemicals management and GHS. Beside that, Dr. Goh has been awarded as project leader/lead consultant for 22 research/consultancy projects. Dr. Goh is currently a trainer for the professional training courses, namely advance training on CLASS Regulations 2013, Environmentally Hazardous Substances (EHS), Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA), Chemical Safety in Laboratory, and Chemicals
Management. Dr Goh has also been appointed by National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia (NIOSH) as trainer for topics related to chemical safety, particularly in the training courses for CHRA, CLASS Regulations for Classifiers, and Occupational Health Doctor (OHD).
