Theo Francken
Minister, Ministry of Defence, Belgium
Theo Francken was born in 1978. He is married to An and is the father of Erin and Nelis. He studied Educational Sciences at KU Leuven. Since 2010, he has served as a federal Member of Parliament for the N-VA, with the exception of a four-year period as a member of government. This makes him one of the longest-serving and most influential elected representatives in Parliament.
Since 2013, he has also been Mayor of Lubbeek. In the Charles Michel I government from 2014 to 2018, he served with great success as State Secretary for Asylum and Migration. In 2019, he was elected Head of the Belgian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. He is currently Minister for Defence and Foreign Trade.
In his free time, he enjoys running and playing tennis. He is also a passionate supporter of Oud-Heverlee Leuven (soccer).
