Alexander Rose

Alexander Rose is a highly sought after expert in matters involving public sector funding – including UK Subsidy Control and EU State aid law.
As a Partner at Ward Hadaway, Alexander leads the dedicated Public Funding unit. In this role, he advises on how public funding can be lawfully awarded to major projects. Examples of work Alexander has undertaken in recent years includes advising upon an inward investment grant to a Japanese company looking to open a European manufacturing facility, successfully supporting a public authority in the UK’s first case under the Subsidy Control Act 2022 and advising upon work to develop a spaceport. Prior to joining Ward Hadaway, Alexander was a Partner advising on Competition and Commercial law at DWF and a Senior Solicitor in the Government Legal Department (in this role, he was seconded to the European Commission in Brussels to work on public funding and State aid matters).
Alexander has built an international reputation for providing high quality legal training. This includes chairing Subsidy Control events for Lexxion, as well as speaking at ESTALI. He has also delivered workshops on EU State aid law in Denmark, Italy, Germany, Belgium and Lithuania and his views on on developments in the law have been published in the Financial Times, the Economist and Le Monde.
