Bernadette Willemot

Bernadette WIllemot-Nieuwenhuys studied international law and compared politics at the Universities of Namur, Gent, and UCL in Belgium. After three years of research in European administrative law at the Institut d’Etudes Europeennes of the UCL in Belgium, combined with one year traineeship in a Brussels law firm, she joined DG Competition in 2001, where she dealt with State aid to manufacturing industries. In 2003, she was among the first officials setting up the ‘recovery unit’ which was a new priority of the then Commissioner for Competition. In 2007, she joined the competition unit of DG Agriculture and Rural Development, where she was Deputy Head of Unit from 2009 till 2014. In 2014, she came back to the enforcement and monitoring of DG Competition, where she is currently case manager.
